Weekend Avalanche Outlook

Heightened avalanche conditions in Chugach State Park this weekend: evaluate snow and terrain carefully; identify features of concern.

Anticipated avalanche problems this weekend: persistent slabs (up to D2.5 in size failing on older, faceted layers) and lingering wind slabs from bouts of wind earlier this week (smaller, but up to D2 in size in more heavily loaded areas).

Both problems are expected to be more of a concern on steep (35*+), typically leeward (northerly and westerly) terrain features in the upper elevations (above ~3000′) especially on the lee side of ridges and cross-loaded terrain.

Keep exposure in mind, and the consequences of even a small avalanche causing you to fall in unforgiving terrain.
