Observations

Eagle River: South Fork area via Hiland Road

Red flags (obvious signs of instability):

  • None observed

Weather:

  • Partly cloudy with moderate SE wind becoming light and temps in the 20s

Surface conditions:

  • Melt-freeze snow to ~2500′
  • Variable snow above ~2500′ consisting mostly of supportable wind-packed with a dusting to 3+’ of soft powder on top, depending on elevation and wind exposure.

Snowpack:

N aspect snowpit at 4100′, 155cm height of snow, 35* slope, ECTX, CT14RP down 35cm density change in recent snow (another snowpit higher up at 5000′ on the same aspect yielded an ECTX):hv pit
