December 30, 2018 View this post on Instagram Dangerous avalanche conditions in the Western Chugach Mountains near Anchorage will continue into the New Year due to strong winds. Natural avalanches are possible, and human triggered avalanches likely, in some areas. Stay safe if you get out to recreate. Due to dangerous avalanche conditions and unpleasant windiness, we’d recommend an activity away from avalanche terrain like fat biking or XC skiing on lower and mid elevation trails that don’t cross potentially dangerous avalanche paths. Keep in mind that some popular trails in Chugach State Park (e.g. Powerline, Eagle & Symphony Lakes, Falls Creek) cross potentially dangerous avalanche paths even in the lower elevations. Make sure you know how to identify avalanche terrain, and assess it for stability if you’re planning to expose yourself to it!
