Observations
South Fork Eagle River:
A party that headed back near Cantata experienced widespread collapsing (numerous “whumphs”) between 2500-4500′ on multiple aspects. Some were very large, and the collapse and propagation could be felt almost like a subtle wave.
A party that headed up Hanging Valley also experienced widespread collapsing, as well as shooting cracks and poor snowpit test results (CT3Q1 down ~7″ on facets at new-old snow interface, S aspect, 3200′).
Numerous recent D1 and D2 natural avalanches observed on multiple aspects throughout the lower and upper South Fork valley and sub-drainages, presumably on facets and/or buried surface hoar at new-old snow interface.
