Observations
Arctic Valley backcountry:
Experienced a lot of collapsing (whumphing) on S and W aspects on the N side of Toklat Creek. This happened in the areas where the snowpack was still supportable (wet slab on basal weak layer of advanced facets and depth hoar). There was a lot of isothermal snow by 3pm on these same S and W aspects.
Notherly aspects of Gordon Lyon and William Barrett were variable with superficial melt-freeze: supportable (but still crusty) in places (upper elevation) and very punchy crust in others (mid elevation).
