April 21, 2018 #HatcherPass obs today from the Goodhope Creek and Idaho Peak area: 1: SE aspect wet avalanches off a sub peak south of Didilkama (#avalanche paths above Reed Lakes trail) initiating from 4500-5000’ and running down to 2700’. 2-3: Wet loose and slab avalanches 4000-4500’ SW aspect above Goodhope Creek. 4-6: 2-3” wet snow on Archangel Rd, Reed Lakes trail, and Lower Goodhope Creek. 3-6” moist snow above 3000’ in the Goodhope Creek area. Up to 3’ (relatively) dry, windloaded snow on upper elevation northerly aspects. Experienced a few whumphs just below leeward ridges where a dense windpacked slab overlies looser and weaker (presumably sheltered, old faceted) snow. In general, the sun wasn’t out strong enough to initiate a lot of wet avalanche activity from the new snow. Widespread wet avalanche activity is expected when the sun does shine intensely.
