Observations

Concerning stability test results on Penguin today: 3800’, N aspect, 40* slope, 255cm HS, ECTP14 Q1 Sudden Planar down 40cm on thin faceted layer between 1F+ layer above and P layer below. While the #snow started out surprisingly dry today, it got very moist by mid afternoon (even on upper elevation north aspects). #Avalanche danger is increasing due to the warmup, and forecast continued warm temps with cloudy skies limiting the overnight refreeze will exacerbate the problem. CAUTION in and around avalanche terrain is advised until temps cool and we at least return to solid nightly refreezes. Be mindful of overhead avalanche danger. Many popular #trails in #ChugachStatePark cross dangerous paths. Warm temps and solar radiation can naturally trigger large and potentially deadly avalanches in such paths.
