May 8, 2018 The Front Range of #ChugachStatePark was rife with fresh wet avalanches yesterday on all aspects (except very sheltered north) and at all elevations, even with the sun not coming out in force until late afternoon. Wet loose avalanches (aka point releases) were prevalent, but wet slabs were also observed in the Williwaw Lakes area along the northwesterly headwall between the Ramp and Williwaw. Large crowns from recent wind slabs were also observed on leeward (west to north aspects) upper elevation terrain. A few to several inches of snow from Sunday existed on all aspects, but cooked down quick on solar aspects. On sheltered upper elevation northerly aspects, the snow remained relatively dry through the day. A post shared by Anchorage Avalanche Center (@anchorage_avalanche_center) on May 8, 2018 at 1:25pm PDT
