November 11, 2017 Friendship Pass #snowpit: ~4800’, 163* south aspect, 39* slope, 80-90cm HS, ECTN12 down ~20cm on rain crust. Outside ECT test parameters, prying behind column with shovel resulted in a Q1 (sudden planar) release down 55cm: faceted layer between wind packed slab and decomposing melt-freeze crust bed surface. Radiation recrystallization observed on southerly aspects. Observed avalanche danger was moderate, with avalanche problems being isolated wind and persistent slabs reactive to human triggers. #HatcherPass #Alaska A post shared by Anchorage Avalanche Center (@anchorage_avalanche_center) on Nov 11, 2017 at 7:24pm PST
