Cornice crevasses exist where large cornices are peeling away from the #mountains, but have not yet fallen. Such cornice crevasses are large and deep enough to swallow a person, and may exist 10-15 yards away from the apparent edge of the ridge. #Anchorage #Girdwood #Alaska #backcountry A post shared by Anchorage Avalanche Center (@anchorage_avalanche_center) on Jan 10, 2019 at 8:08pm PST View this post on Instagram The number of #GlideCracks in the upper Virgin Creek valley is really stunning. It’s as if entire slopes are buckling with them. They are most prevalent on SE to S aspects. Extra caution is warranted as some large, crevasse-like glide cracks could swallow a person and have been hidden by weak snow bridges and #avalanche debris. #Girdwood #Anchorage #Alaska #backcountry A post shared by Anchorage Avalanche Center (@anchorage_avalanche_center) on Jan 10, 2019 at 8:26pm PST View this post on Instagram Hibbs Peak #summit and #ski with @sam_inouye A post shared by Anchorage Avalanche Center (@anchorage_avalanche_center) on Jan 10, 2019 at 8:37pm PST
