January 9, 2019 View this post on Instagram Arctic Valley #backcountry observations today: lots of #CharachterBuilding #snow in the upper elevations with pockets of #powder around brushline. The #ArcticValley area seems to have the worst #snowpack in #ChugachStatePark – far worse than even the nearby #SoFo (S. Fork #EagleRiver) areas like Harp and North Bowl. The snowpack is the thinnest we’ve seen in the park, and has atrociously worse strength and structure than anywhere else we’ve been. That said, it’s still much better than last January in terms of depth and coverage! Approach #avalanche terrain in this area with a great deal of caution; the snowpack is NASTY! We’ll post a video discussion soon.
