Public Observation:
Toured from approximately 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Southside of Anchorage near and just above treeline. Steady winds made snow transport quite obvious. Wind slabs were quickly developing on leeward slopes. They were quite touchy and failing on what appears to be yesterday’s light and calm snowfall. Wind slabs were 4 to 6 inches deep with increased density(about 1finger hardness) and energy upon release in exposed/open areas; while in more sheltered areas the slabs had less energy on release and were softer (fist hardness). Shooting cracks increased in length as the day progressed (longest up to about 10ft).
